Directions:
For this project, you will use the information you have learned about the techniques and terminology involved in analyzing poetry to create a presentation about two poems that interest you.

Elements of the Assignment (3 Parts):
Part 1-Poem Selection
Choose ONE American poem that:
-is written by a FAMOUS American poet from any era
- is interesting to you

Consider using the websites below, or browse any of the thousands of other poetry websites you come across on the Web. If you are interested in a certain topic or a specific type of poetry, do a Google search using those keywords (for example: American poetry about sports; American poetry about love; American free verse poetry; short American poems; funny American poetry; and so on...) Once you have found your poem, PRINT IT OUT please.

Part 2-Poetry Analysis (35 points)
Analyze your poem by answering questions about it on the following PoetryAnalysisWorksheet.doc
Part 3-Presenting What You Learned About One Poem (40 points)
Use PowerPoint, Keynote, iMovie, or Wiki (using Wikispaces) to create a presentation that summarizes the information you learned from analyzing your poem. Your presentation should include the following:
a. The FULL TEXT of your poem
b. A reading of your poem (whether it is read by you, the computer, a person in the class, or an audio file you find on the Internet)
c. A brief explanation/analysis of the poem:
-Who is the poet? Give some brief biographical information
-What is the point of the poem?
-Point out several of the poetic devices used (i.e. form, rhythm, figurative language, sound devices, etc.)
-What did you like about it?
-What did you dislike about it?
-Why did you select it?
d. Some sort of visual representation of the poem--not the poet (clipart, a picture, a drawing, a symbol, a short video, a piece of artwork, Wordle)

Grading for the Assignment:
You will be graded on your fulfillment of the requirements above, using this PoetryProjectScoringGuide.doc Please review it, print it out, and have it ready for Mrs. Malone on the day of your presentation.

Part 1: Analysis= _/35
